JET SETTERS | WHAT’S YOUR WINTER SUN STYLE?

JET SETTERS | WHAT’S YOUR WINTER SUN STYLE?

Dark nights, frosty temps and bad hair days. No thanks. We’re opting out. For a week or two that is – we’re having great fun planning a much needed get-away in the winter sun. You’d think our options would be more limited than the traditional summer fixes, but there’s a whole wealth of winter glorious destinations out there, just waiting to be explored. We’re thinking long-haul, tropical and further afield to fuel the ultimate winter sun daydreams, and have come up with 4 TOP AMAZING holiday ideas. It all just comes down to what exactly makes your idea of paradise…

Calm and Tranquil: The Indian Ocean

We’re thinking the Maldives and you can see why. All resorts make up their own island – and with over 100 resort islands, it’s fair to say there’s a good few to choose from! All varying in price and facilities, what you WILL find is a slice of tropical paradise to call your own. If you love soaking up the sun with a good book, the occasional dip in the sea or even water sports, this will be your kind of place. The ultimate chilled out, white sands and turquoise waters getaway.

QUICK FACTS

·         Temp: 27°C +

·         Food: Coconuts – you’re in paradise remember! More substantial meals will take the form of fresh fish and Oriental/Arabic inspired cuisine

·         Flight time: 10 hours direct from London to Male, longer with changes

Hip and Lively: The US of A

QUICK FACTS

•          Temp: 22°C +

•          Food: Dodge the fast food and look out for Cuban cuisine – if you can bring yourself away from the cocktails that is!

•          Flight time: 9.5 hours direct from London to Miami

Miami to be precise! For a hub of all things fun and vibrant, Miami mixes that classic Floridian sunshine with a big-city buzz for something a little more action packed. In between channelling your inner beach goddess, and maybe the odd pool party or two, make time for a city tour or a day trip to the island of Key West. We’d recommend staying in a hotel to soak up a bit of atmosphere – go for small and boutique or big glitz and glam depending on your style.

Exotic and Cultured: South East Asia

So how about Thailand? Thrive in the madness of Bangkok before heading to the islands to completely chill out. You may have trouble picking a favourite, so consider the option of travelling round a few.  Koh Phi Phi and Koh Tao are some of the best bets for white sands, scuba diving and relaxed beach bars. All-inclusive resorts can be great value, or look for cute, self-catering bungalows for a more spontaneous, purse-friendly option.

QUICK FACTS •          Temp: 30°C + •          Food: If you’re a foodie, this could be enough to seal the deal. Asian curries, salads, noodles and rice dishes with beautiful mixes of spicy and fruity flavours •          Flight time: 12 hours direct from London to Bangkok, but a change is often needed

Fun and Tropical: The Caribbean

It wouldn’t take much to tempt us into a Caribbean jaunt this winter! Take in multiple sights on a cruise, or alternatively, settle on an island like Barbados for a big family and friends get together. Resorts range from humble to palatial. Combining historic towns and tropical beaches, go out and enjoy lush gardens, big, surfing waves and getting up close to turtles on a snorkel trip – without forgetting a shopping trip to Bridgetown! All the tropical island bliss, with a fun few extras.

QUICK FACTS

•          Temp: 26°C +

•          Food: From jerk pork to fish stews, expect a Caribbean feast. And don’t forget to sample the rum!

•          Flight time: 9 hours direct from London

Can’t decide? Us neither. If you ARE lucky enough to be off this winter, head over to our Winter Sun section – ticking all the beach-wear boxes, YEAR ROUND. Handy!

Happy holiday dreaming!
